Welcome to Stalen’s Way!!
Thank you so much for stopping by our site.
Stalen (my sunshine bear) is 8 years old and autistic. Stalen also has developmental delays and other medical challenges (pica, anemia, bowel problems and bilateral calcaneal valgus with ankle pronation). He is non-speaking but uses an IPad with special software (Proloquo2go) to communicate and is becoming more proficient every day.
In September 2020, Stalen had his first surgery and had a cecostomy tube placed to help with his bowel challenges. In January 2022, his cecostomy was removed and he got an ileostomy. In March 2022, Stalen also got a feeding tube (g-tube).
Stalen has a huge personality!!! He loves to be a trickster. He is very easy going (most days) and always smiling. He is pure sunshine! If he is upset there is usually a reason why. He has a fighting spirit, a giant heart and big twinkling blue eyes. He is our hero! He rises to meet every challenge that comes his way!!
He loves technology especially iPhones, YouTube and Netflix. He enjoys country music, tickles and Breton vegetable crackers. He also gives the best hugs.
I am Chrystal, his proud Mama. When Stalen was 21 months old, we received his Autism diagnosis and we haven’t looked back since!
We have decided to share our journey with ASD to promote kindness, understanding, awareness and acceptance for all those living with autism and other special needs. We like to focus on kindness, positivity and celebrating our differences. We share our triumphs and our struggles as we offer an honest glimpse into Stalen’s world.
We hope you find our site fun and informative. I’m confident that you will all realize how truly amazing and unstoppable “our boy” really is. We live our best life every day, embrace adventure, laugh a lot and love hard especially on the tough days.
No two individuals have the same experience with Autism, so please keep in mind this is Stalen’s story from my perspective.
