Life with Autism & an Ileostomy

Ileostomy is a stoma constructed by bringing the end or loop of small intestine out onto the surface of the skin, or the surgical procedure which creates this opening. Intestinal waste passes out of the ileostomy and is collected in an external ostomy system which is placed next to the opening.

On January 7, 2022 Stalen got an ileostomy. He did amazing and was up walking only a few hours after his surgery. However, after we arrived home he had some complications and had to be rushed back to the hospital. On January 16, 2022 Stalen had a stoma revision surgery. He is doing quite well and adjusting to life with an ileostomy.
